STORYBOARD



Concept: The story revolves around a player experiencing two contrasting worlds: one generated by AI and one based on traditional myths. The goal is to highlight the strengths and limitations of each narrative style, while encouraging reflection on the role of technology in shaping culture.


Scene 1: Introduction (2–3 minutes)

  • Visuals: The player finds themselves in a neutral space—an abstract, minimalist void (white and gray tones). A narrator introduces the theme of the project: "Stories define us, but what happens when technology becomes the storyteller?"
  • Gameplay: Simple interaction—players walk forward and touch an artifact (glowing orb or scroll) to begin.
  • Goal: Set the tone and immerse the player.

Scene 2: AI-Generated World (5–7 minutes)

  • Visuals: A cold, symmetrical, and repetitive world dominated by metallic structures, neon lights, and holographic elements. The world feels "perfect" but lifeless.

Scene 3: Traditional Mythical World (5–7 minutes)

  • Visuals: A vibrant, organic world inspired by natural textures and cultural elements. Players walk through a lush forest with carvings, murals, or artifacts representing traditional myths.

Scene 4: The Reflection Space (2–3 minutes)

  • Visuals: The player returns to the neutral space from the beginning. Two pedestals appear, one representing the AI world and the other the traditional world.

PROJECT INTTRODUCTION

 

AI Bias in Cultural Narratives

Since 2024, I have become increasingly aware that the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in creative and cultural spaces can marginalize underrepresented groups. As someone deeply interested in technology and storytelling, I regularly explore AI tools to experiment with narrative and visual design. However, I've noticed a recurring pattern: the narratives generated by these tools often lack depth, nuance, and representation of different cultural perspectives. This led me to question the inclusivity of AI-driven creativity and its impact on cultural diversity.


In trying out AI tools, I found that these systems, trained primarily with data from the dominant culture or economically developed regions, consistently produced homogenized results. This realization became even more apparent when I attempted to explore the stories and themes of marginalized groups and found them either distorted or completely absent. This reinforces my concern that AI's reliance on biased data sources perpetuates cultural erasure and reinforces systemic inequality

 

The idea behind this project is to address these concerns by creating an interactive experience that highlights the biases embedded in AI-generated narratives and their impact on cultural diversity. The project seeks to empower users—particularly those who feel sidelined by AI’s biases—to reflect on the limitations of AI-driven creativity. Through a visually immersive computer game, the project juxtaposes AI-generated stories with reimagined traditional myths to provoke critical thinking about the role of technology in shaping the future of culture.

 

The key message of this project is to encourage inclusivity and awareness of cultural diversity in AI systems. By presenting this message through an interactive and visually engaging medium, the project ensures that players can explore these critical issues without feeling overwhelmed by overly technical or dense information. The design prioritizes concise, accessible content and visual storytelling, ensuring that players can engage deeply with the themes in a focused and meaningful way. This approach reflects the importance of balancing technology’s efficiency with its capacity to celebrate and preserve human creativity in all its forms.
